Spring colours define Czech Republic’s Lednice–Valtice Cultural Landscape
Stretching near the border with Austria, the Lednice–Valtice Cultural Landscape in the Czech Republic was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. Developed over centuries by the House of Liechtenstein and set within the Dyje River floodplain, the area combines historic estates, managed forests, fishpond systems, and agricultural land.
This image, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites on 3 May 2026, highlights the contrast between the vivid green of dense forests and cultivated fields and the pale pink and beige tones of agricultural parcels in fallow. The winding Dyje River traces a dark, sinuous course across the upper part of the image, while several lakes and fishponds appear in deep blue and turquoise near Lednice and Hlohovec.
Copernicus open data support land-cover monitoring, water management, and seasonal vegetation monitoring, contributing to the long-term conservation of such protected landscape.
