The drought that is affecting Bolivia has fuelled wildfires in the provinces of Cochabamba, La Paz and Santa Cruz. As a result, air quality in some areas has been altered by the smoke. Water shortages have also become a major issue, leading authorities to declare a state of emergency in 165 communities.

In this image of the Bolivian provinces of La Paz and Cochamba, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellites on 23 October, the burning wildfires can be clearly seen as they fill the sky with smoke.

The Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service provides forecasts on a range of key air quality indicators, such as aerosol and carbon monoxide.
