Multiple uncontrolled bushfires have affected the Australian state of Victoria in recent days, forcing communities to evacuate, leading to the closure of hundreds of schools, and leaving thousands of homes without electricity.
This Copernicus Sentinel-2 image, acquired on 9 January 2026, shows the area south of the town of Longwood in northern Victoria. Extensive dark burn scars mark areas already affected by fire, while active fire fronts appear in bright red tones.
Copernicus Sentinel-2 data supports emergency response and fire management by mapping burned areas, and assessing damage, helping authorities better plan recovery efforts.
