Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, is located on the islands of Zealand (Sjælland) and Amager. City authorities are working to make it the world’s first carbon-neutral capital by 2025. This commitment to sustainability is reflected in the city’s bike lanes, abundant urban green spaces, and widespread green roofs, all of which are visible in high-resolution satellite imagery.

Amager Island, which hosts the Copenhagen Airport, is Denmark’s most densely populated island. Remarkably, it is also home to a vast nature reserve which supports numerous red-listed and EU-protected species.

This image was produced using the Very High Resolution European Image Mosaic product for the 2021 reference year, provided by the Copernicus Land Monitoring Service. The VHR European Image Mosaic is a comprehensive, true-colour mosaic created using a variety of optical sensors with spatial resolutions between 2 and 4 metres.
