Further flooding in Emilia-Romagna, Italy
After being impacted by torrential rainfall and subsequent flooding from Storm Boris in September 2024, on 19 October the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna has been affected by another severe episode of flooding after days of heavy rainfall.
Several rivers in the region have reached critical levels, with many others overflowing. At least 3,000 people have been evacuated from their homes.
The Italian Department of Civil Protection has activated the Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS) to provide flood extent and damage assessments of the situation (EMSR771). In this data visualisation based on CEMS data, flooded areas near the city of Parma are visible in blue tones.
The Copernicus Services and Sentinel satellites deliver reliable monitoring of flooding events and their consequences, providing support for response and recovery operations.
