Lubāna Wetland Complex, Latvia
2 February marks World Wetlands Day, which raises awareness of the important role wetlands play in sustaining life on Earth, their ecological function in supporting migratory bird populations, and the value of traditional knowledge in wetland management.
This data visualisation shows the Lubāna Wetland Complex, a Ramsar site and the largest inland wetland in Latvia, using the CLCplus Backbone 2023 product from the Copernicus Land Monitoring Service (CLMS). It shows different surface types across the area, with woody needle-leaved trees and woody broadleaved deciduous trees shown in green tones, low-growing woody plants in brown, permanent herbaceous cover in light green, and water in blue.
The CLCplus Backbone product provides pan-European land cover data across 11 classes at 10-metre resolution for the year 2023, supporting environmental monitoring and wetland conservation efforts. Further information is available here.
