Montixelvo, Spain devastated by a 5-day wildfire
The wildfire that has been ravaging the area of Montitxelvo, south of Valencia, in Spain, has been declared under control by the local authorities after burning for 5 days. More than 2,500 hectares have burnt, affecting 5 municipalities, and causing the displacement of at least 950 people.
In this image of 6 November acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites, the burn scar from the wildfire can clearly be distinguished from the green areas in the surroundings.
The Copernicus Emergency Management Service Rapid Mapping component has been activated for this event (EMSR704), and the monitoring of Copernicus Contributing Missions satellites helped local authorities delineate the burnt areas and assess the effects of the wildfire on the landscape.
