Spring crops across the Banat Plain, Romania
Location: Romania
Credit: European Union, Copernicus Sentinel-2 imagery

The Banat Plain is one of the most productive agricultural areas of Romania, shaped by fertile soils and a long history of agricultural practice. This intensively cultivated landscape also retains ecological value, with a patchwork of fields and field margins which support pollinators and farmland biodiversity.

This image, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites on 23 April 2026, shows the area near the villages of Tomnatic, Gottlob, and Comloșu Mare in the Banat Plain. The vivid greens indicate typical spring crops such as rapeseed.

Copernicus data provide consistent, high-resolution observations of agricultural landscapes, supporting the monitoring of crop development and seasonal dynamics. These observations contribute to the implementation of the European Union’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), helping to promote sustainable farming practices, improve land management, and support food security across Europe.
