Subseasonal and seasonal climate predictions of soil moisture
In March 2024, subseasonal and seasonal climate predictions of soil moisture (0-60 cm below surface) have been added to DWD’s climate prediction website as a complement to temperature and precipitation predictions. With this update, further information on boundary conditions impacting summer dryness or winter flooding can be provided.
The goal is to present a user-friendly and tailored website, that offers a consistent selection of available climate predictions and corresponding prediction skills for different timescales (weeks, seasons, years). The subseasonal and seasonal predictions of soil moisture are updated each week and each month, respectively.
They are calculated based on the high-resolution statistical downscaling data for Germany and available in the expert version of the DWD climate predictions website in German and English. The basic version and climate predictions for Europe and the world will be provided for temperature and precipitation only.
