Elephant Foot Glacier, located on the Kronprins Christian Land peninsula in northeastern Greenland, is a striking piedmont glacier which flows into Romer Lake. With a terminal lobe measuring 5.4 kilometres in width, the glacier forms a distinctive circular fan of ice as it spreads from a central outlet.

The glacier and lake are visible in this Copernicus Sentinel-2 image acquired on 16 July 2024.

Thanks to a high temporal resolution, the open data delivered by the Copernicus Sentinel satellites allows for the reliable and continuous monitoring of glaciers around the world. This information supports researchers and decision-makers in the development of strategies for addressing challenges stemming from climate change.
