The recently published Forest Fires in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa 2025 Advanced Report, produced by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) and based on data from the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), indicates that in 2025 a total burnt area of 2,242,195 hectares has been recorded. This corresponds to a 20% increase compared to 2024 and is approximately 2.5 times higher than the burnt area recorded in 2023.

This data visualisation, based on EFFIS data, shows the distribution of fires across the regions covered by the report. In 2025, a total of 23,180 fires were recorded across the European Union, other European countries, and the Middle East and North Africa.

EFFIS is part of the Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS). CEMS provides rapid situational awareness, supports post-fire assessment, and helps target prevention and recovery efforts more effectively.
