Large parts of central and northern Europe are under snow and below-average temperatures.

On 17 January, the Oslo airport had to cancel flights, and train services were suspended in parts of Norway due to the heavy snowfall. There were also many snow-related transportation issues in Central Europe. In Belgium, trains were cancelled, and a red alert was issued.

This image was acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellites on 17 January and shows the low-pressure system responsible for the heavy snowfall hovering over Norway and Sweden.

The Copernicus Land Monitoring Service product portfolio includes Snow & Ice (HR-S&I) Monitoring products, which provide high-resolution (20 m x 20 m) information derived from Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellite data on snow and ice conditions in the 38 Member States and Cooperating Countries of the European Environment Agency.
