Cyprus, a beautiful Mediterranean island known for its rich history and strategic location, is modernising its infrastructure to better support economic growth and connectivity in light of its position as a key centre for trade, tourism, and maritime activities.

The European Commission funded significant projects to promote sustainable development and improve quality of life in Cyprus. In Limassol, the island’s second-largest city and a major maritime hub, an essential road network was expanded to link the New Port with the Limassol-Paphos motorway. These upgrades ensure smoother travel, better access to the port, and modern amenities for residents and visitors alike. A storm water drainage system was also installed to mitigate the effects of regular flooding in the area.

The city of Limassol is visible in this image acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites on 17 January 2025.
