Acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites on 23 June 2026, this image shows Cork, Ireland's second-largest city, where the River Lee widens into Lough Mahon, an inlet forming the north-western part of Cork Harbour.

The urban area appears in pale grey and pink tones, contrasting with the surrounding patchwork of bright green and straw-coloured agricultural fields. Industrial and port facilities are visible along the waterfront, while the wider landscape is dominated by a dense mosaic of fields separated by hedgerows and small roads.

On 1 July 2026, Ireland takes over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the second half of the year. While many Presidency-related events will take place in the Irish capital, Dublin, further events will also be held in Cork and other towns across the country. Further information on the Presidency is available on the dedicated webpage.
