Mount Kilimanjaro rises above the clouds, Tanzania
Mount Kilimanjaro, located in northern Tanzania, is the highest mountain in Africa and one of the continent’s most recognisable volcanic landscapes.
It is visible in this natural-colour image acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites on 21 June 2026. Clouds surround much of the massif, while the mountain’s summit area and remaining glaciers can be seen at the centre of the image as well as ice near the peak.
Copernicus Sentinel-2 provides high-resolution optical imagery which supports the monitoring of land cover, vegetation, mountain environments, and changes in sensitive ecosystems over time.
