Agriculture in Austria and Slovakia
Location: Austria and Slovakia
Credit: European Union, Copernicus Sentinel-2 imagery

This image, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites on 18 June 2024, shows colourful fields of crops along the blue-coloured Danube River flowing through Austria and Slovakia. The cities of Vienna and Bratislava are visible in the left and right of the image, respectively.

Copernicus plays a key role in enabling smarter, cleaner, and more sustainable farming. Open data from the Sentinel satellites delivers insights into crop health, soil moisture, and water management, allowing farmers to make more informed decisions to optimise resources and reduce costs. When it comes to precision farming, Copernicus, together with other components of the EU Space Programme,  supports yield forecasts and assessments of agricultural land use and trends, as well as farm management recording and irrigation management. This information helps farmers protect their crops and ensures that future agricultural demands can be better met.
