Central Europe under clear skies in early April 2026
Location: Central Europe
Credit: European Union, Copernicus Sentinel-3 imagery

Following several weeks of persistent rain and low temperatures, high-pressure conditions across Central Europe on 7 April 2026 brought clear skies and late-spring temperatures.

Acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellites on the same date, this image shows the area during the transition from winter to spring. The Alps are visible as a continuous bright white band of snow cover, which contrasts sharply with the surrounding lowlands in shades of green and brown. The Po Valley in northern Italy appears distinctly hazy and lighter in tone, consistent with intensive land use and local atmospheric conditions, whilst large lakes such as Lake Geneva and Lake Constance appear as dark blue patches. To the west, much of France appears in shades of green, while snow is visible over the Pyrenees.

Copernicus Sentinel data support the monitoring of snow cover extent and seasonal change, providing essential information for water management, hazard assessment, and climate analysis across Europe and beyond.
