Grand Canyon from (very high) above
Grand Canyon looks amazing from all perspectives. The geological kaleidoscope forming the colourful walls of the canyon is also visible on this satellite image, with the slope shadows also highlighting the forms of the buttes and mesas between the side valleys. At the very center of the image, the Colorado river is crossed by two narrow bridges - the trails leading to these are visible but the bridges themselves are too narrow to be shown at this resolution. Three sets of rapids are visible on the river as patches of white water: the Horn Creek Rapid, Granite Rapid and Hermit Rapids (from W to East respectively).
This is a True Colour Sentinel-2 image from 6 June 2024, with slight colour enhancement to highlight the varying tones of the rock surfaces.
