The coastal town of Haapsalu, in western Estonia, is located on the shores of the Baltic Sea, an hour’s drive from the capital, Tallinn. Haapsalu is known for its mud baths and spa treatments, attracting visitors seeking relaxation to its many seaside resorts. The first bathhouse was opened in Haapsalu as early as 1825, though the local mud has been famed for its therapeutic qualities since ancient times.

This Copernicus Sentinel-2 image, acquired on 31 May 2025, shows the town from above, with its characteristic peninsulas stretching into the Haapsalu Tagalaht Bay.

The Copernicus Sentinel satellites are key to the reliable and consistent monitoring of coastal regions around the world, providing evidence-based insights into coastal dynamics and urban development strategies.
