In recent days, eastern Africa has been affected by very heavy rainfall, resulting in severe floods throughout the region.
In Kenya, thousands of people have been impacted by the flooding, and at least 170 casualties have been reported. Kenyan authorities issued an evacuation order for areas that are prone to further floods and landslides.
In this Copernicus Sentinel-2 image from 29 April, a flooded area near Garissa, Kenya is visible.
The Copernicus Sentinel satellites provide valuable data for identifying and delineating the extent of flooded areas and for monitoring the consequences of such disastrous events.
