Sunshine spreads across the UK and Ireland
Between 23 and 25 June 2026, a broad area of clear weather brought blue skies across much of the United Kingdom and Ireland, providing us with an unusually cloudless view of the landscape from space. Such weather is relatively uncommon across these islands, where Atlantic weather systems frequently bring extensive cloud cover.
This image, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellites on 25 June 2026, provides us with an unobstructed view of most of England, Wales, Ireland, and southern Scotland. A band of thicker clouds extends across northern Scotland and into the North Sea. The surrounding seas appear in deep blue, with lighter turquoise waters highlighting shallow coastal areas and suspended sediments along parts of the English Channel.
Copernicus Sentinel-3 imagery supports the monitoring of land, oceans, and the atmosphere, helping track environmental change over time.
