Wildfire burns 7,000 hectares in Almería province, Spain

Stretching along the north-west coast of Cyprus, the Akamas Peninsula forms a rugged coastal landscape bordering Chrysochou Bay. The area is recognised for its ecological value, supporting diverse Mediterranean habitats, endemic plant species, and important coastal ecosystems.

On 12 July 2026, a wildfire spread through part of Fontainebleau Forest in Seine-et-Marne, northern France, approximately 60 kilometres south-east of Paris. The fire prompted evacuations and disrupted nearby road and rail services.

Perito Moreno Glacier lies in Los Glaciares National Park, in Santa Cruz Province, southern Argentina. For decades, the glacier showed few signs of retreat compared with many other Patagonian glaciers, but recent satellite-based research indicates that this pattern is changing.

Starina Reservoir, in eastern Slovakia, is the country’s largest source of drinking water. Located within Poloniny National Park, the reservoir is surrounded by primeval beech forests inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. These forests support biodiversity and water quality.
