Torres del Paine National Park, Chile
Torres del Paine National Park is one of the most recognisable protected landscapes in southern Chile. Located in the Patagonian Andes, the park features granite peaks, glacial valleys, turquoise lakes, and extensive ice fields. Among its most prominent ice masses is Grey Glacier, which flows from the Southern Patagonian Ice Field.
This image, acquired on 21 January 2026 by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites, shows Torres del Paine National Park. Grey Glacier appears in bright white tones, while the lakes within the park appear in vivid turquoise colours. Vegetation across the Patagonian steppe appears green, contrasting with the brown rocky mountains of the National Park.
Copernicus satellite data support the monitoring of glacier dynamics, snow cover, and ecosystem changes in remote mountain environments, contributing to climate research and protected-area management.
