Daugavpils, Latvia
Daugavpils, Latvia’s second-largest city, lies to the south-east of the country and has long served as a key regional centre. Its development and identity are closely tied to the Daugava River, which flows through the city, shaping both the landscape and local life. Along its banks, forests, wetlands, and floodplains support diverse wildlife, while the river continues to influence settlement patterns, economic activity, and cultural traditions across the region.
This Copernicus Sentinel-2 image, acquired on 19 October 2025, shows Daugavpils and the Daugava meandering through it. Water appears in dark blue to black, forested areas in dark green, and surrounding farmland in lighter green and brown tones.
Data from the Copernicus Sentinel-2 helps monitor river dynamics, land use changes, and ecosystem health, supporting sustainable urban planning and water management.
