Floods in southern France
Severe and unrelenting weather conditions caused by Storm Monica have affected the serene landscape of the Camargue region, unleashing torrents of heavy rainfall that have flooded rivers and inundated low-lying areas upstream. The storm had catastrophic consequences in upriver regions, with local residents reported missing and emergency services engaged in rescue operations.
The sediment plume of the Rhone River is visible in this image of its estuary acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites on 12 March.
The Copernicus Sentinel satellites provide valuable data for identifying and delineating the extent of areas affected by floods and for monitoring the consequences of disastrous events.
