A massive Saharan dust storm developed in the Mediterranean on the evening of 20 October.

As shown in this image acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellites on 21 October at 8:50 UTC, the dust cloud stretched from Libya to Italy, engulfing the skies over the Strait of Sicily.

According to the forecasts of the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS), the dust will continue its journey towards Greece before reaching Türkiye and Ukraine in the following days.

CAMS provides accurate forecasts of the movement and concentration of dust in the atmosphere, helping policymakers and other stakeholders to plan actions to mitigate the negative effects of dust storms.
