Visualising population density with Copernicus data
The Copernicus Emergency Management Service Global Human Settlement Layer (GHSL) provides detailed mapping of human presence around the world. This data enables urban planners, researchers, and policymakers to assess demographic distribution, infrastructure needs, and urban expansion trends, supporting informed decisions for sustainable city development.
This data visualisation, based on GHSL data, shows a forecast for population distribution in 2030 in northern, Belgium. It reveals a highly concentrated urban core in red and orange tones surrounded by lower-density residential areas.
More information about the GHSL and its applications is available here.
