Bushfires in Australia’s Ballarat region
The Ballarat region of western Victoria, in Australia, is battling an out-of-control bushfire that has prompted authorities to warn residents not to return home due to ongoing safety concerns. Despite efforts by firefighters to contain it, the fire remains active and has destroyed at least six houses and numerous sheds since it started. With a hot weather forecasted for the coming week, with temperatures in the mid-40s, there are fears that fire conditions could worsen. More than 1,000 firefighters are battling the blaze, with authorities stressing the magnitude of the challenge. Concerns have also been raised in view of the potential for extreme fire danger in the coming days, prompting calls for increased preparedness among bush and regional residents.
