Monthly surface air temperature anomalies in 2023
The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) has just released its annual climate summary for 2023, which highlights high variability across Europe and extreme weather events.
These data visualisations, based on CS3 data, illustrate the surface air temperature monthly anomalies for Europe in 2023, compared to the averages for the 1991-2020 reference period. They show significant variations in the temperatures across Europe during the spring and summer of 2023. Spring was warmer compared to the previous two years. During this season, the Iberian Peninsula and northeastern Europe saw notably higher temperatures and drier weather, while northwest to southeast Europe saw near-average temperatures and higher-than-average rainfall. May was the only month of the year during which conditions were slightly cooler than the average.
