New coastal area to be protected in Canada
The Canadian government is planning to create a marine protected area off the coast of Ontario to help safeguard biodiversity and habitats. This proposed protected area spans approximately 2,050 square kilometers and will help conserve various marine species and ecosystems, including freshwater fish habitats and important spawning grounds. Consultations with Indigenous communities, stakeholders, and the public are underway to gather feedback and ensure inclusive decision-making processes during the establishment of the marine protected area.
