EU Space Surveillance and Tracking (EU SST) is the cornerstone of EU STM strategy. EU SST fosters innovation and supports European industrial capabilities for strategic autonomy. The EU Industry and Start-ups Forum on STM (EISF) unites stakeholders to define R&D priorities.

The EU approach on Space Traffic Management (STM) proposed by the Commission and the High Representative therefore aims at keeping space operations safe, space orbits usable, and space accessible for decades to come while ensuring and further fostering the competitiveness of the EU space industry.

Space Situational Awareness (SSA) provides accurate information on the space environment, ensuring uninterrupted space services for EU citizens. Essential for strategic autonomy, SSA takes a holistic approach to monitor main space hazards: collisions, fragmentation, re-entry, space weather, and near-Earth objects.

IOD/IOV services enable testing of space technologies in orbit, accelerating innovation and market access. Through the CASSINI initiative, the EU supports start-ups, research organizations, and industry while developing critical space skills for the future.

One of the actions goals was to provide a methodology to interact with national coastal stakeholders to collect their needs and to map existing national services.

The action " COPERNICUS FOR MARINE SPATIAL PLANNING AND EU DIRECTIVES" analysed how Copernicus Marine Services can contribute to the effective implementation of EU Marine Directives.

EU presentation at the UN (May 2025) clarifying the difference between Space Traffic Management (regulatory, long-term rules) and Space Traffic Coordination (operational, immediate collision avoidance). Both approaches are complementary and essential.
