Australian eucalypt forests impacted by drought
In Western Australia, forests have been heavily affected by drought and extreme temperatures. Many of the affected forests are dominated by eucalypt trees such as jarrah and marri, which are found only in that region of the world. Amid the difficult conditions, the trees and shrubs, some of which are over a century old, turn brown as their health declines.
An affected eucalypt forest in the Helena National Park is visible in this Copernicus Sentinel-2 image acquired on 20 April 2024.
Open data from the Copernicus satellites enables the continuous monitoring of forests, providing invaluable data for tracking and managing their health.
