Calm seas around Amorgos Island
Amorgos, the easternmost island of the Cyclades, seems to guard the nearby Small Cyclades with its oblong shape. It stands at the centre of the Southern Aegean Sea, acting as a crossroads where the North meets the South.
Rising dramatically above the sea, parts of Amorgos offer sweeping ocean views. This striking Cycladic Island features pristine beaches with azure waters, scenic bays, and ancient footpaths winding through rugged, rocky landscapes.
This image, acquired on 11 August 2025 by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites, shows calm seas around the island. Typically, during August, the Cyclades experience strong Etesian north winds, also called meltemia, which can at times disrupt maritime traffic.
