Four Aruba’s wetlands designated as Ramsar-protected sites
Aruba is a Caribbean island located off the coast of Venezuela. Its wetlands are invaluable natural treasures, playing a vital role in the island's ecosystem and beyond. They serve as critical habitats for a wide range of wildlife, from migratory birds to endemic species, providing them shelter, breeding grounds, and food. Four of Aruba's wetlands have recently been designated as protected areas under the Ramsar Convention. They act as nature's water filtration system, protecting the area from coastal erosion and reducing the impact of natural disasters.
This recent image acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites on 26 November shows Aruba and its wetlands.
Copernicus supports the protection and preservation of such unique ecosystems by delivering free and open high-resolution satellite imagery for monitoring and management purposes.
