The Istrian Peninsula, the largest peninsula in the Adriatic Sea, is a region of high ecological value. It hosts a mosaic of karst hills, coastal wetlands, and productive marine habitats which support diverse wildlife. Its rugged shoreline, dotted with islands and bays, provides important breeding and feeding grounds for fish and seabirds, while inland forests and grasslands help regulate the regional climate.

The peninsula is shown in this Copernicus Sentinel-2 image acquired on 5 November 2025. Vegetation appears in bright shades of green, while the deep blue waters of the Adriatic Sea display subtle patterns associated with currents and coastal processes.

Copernicus data play an important role in monitoring coastal environments, supporting sustainable land management, water quality assessments, and biodiversity conservation efforts.
