The Ottenby Nature Reserve, a birdwatcher’s paradise
The Ottenby nature reserve, located on the southern tip of Öland, Sweden, is a diverse natural area renowned for its rich biodiversity. This Natura 2000 and Ramsar Site includes wet grasslands, beaches, pastures, and sandbanks. Known as one of the top areas for birdwatching in Sweden, 377 species of birds have been observed at Ottenby. At the Ottenby Bird Observatory, part of the nature reserve and located at the southern cape of the island, around 20,000 birds are ringmarked annually, contributing insights to bird migration research. The reserve's combination of unique ecosystems and scientific significance makes it an essential ecological site.
