World Oceans Day 2026: Ocean monitoring for informed decision-making

Observed on 7 June each year, World Food Safety Day highlights the importance of secure, resilient food systems, from farm production to supply chains, and the careful management of agricultural land.

Ambae Volcano is a large shield volcano in northern Vanuatu, in the Pacific Ocean. Its summit caldera contains three lakes: Lake Manaro Voui occupies the central part of the caldera, while Lake Manaro Ngoru lies to the west and Lake Manaro Lakua, the largest of the three, lies to the east.

5 June marks World Environment Day 2026, under the theme “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future”, highlighting the important role of nature-based solutions in addressing climate change and supporting sustainable livelihoods for future generations.

The Gulf of Saint-Malo lies between Brittany and Normandy, in north-western France. It is known for strong tidal dynamics, which influence coastal waters, sediment transport, and the surrounding marine environment.

In late May 2026, several countries in Western Europe faced above-average temperatures. During the same period, large areas of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea also recorded above-average sea surface temperatures.
