8 June marks World Oceans Day 2026, a UN’s initiative  highlighting the importance of ocean monitoring to better understand marine conditions, support policy, and inform decisions across coastal and offshore areas.

This data visualisation, based on Copernicus Marine Service data, presents four ocean variables, namely sea ice extent, sea water velocity, chlorophyll-a concentration, and sea water temperature, and illustrates how marine data supports the assessment of changes across different regions of the global ocean.

The Copernicus Marine Service provides reliable ocean data, forecasts, and indicators, which contribute to marine environmental monitoring, climate assessment, maritime safety, and the sustainable management of ocean resources.
