Historic snowfall on the Teide National Park, Spain
Teide National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is located on the island of Tenerife, the largest of the Spanish Canary Islands. It hosts one of the world’s most striking volcanic landscapes, with high-altitude plains, lava flows, and crater walls which host many endemic plant species and habitats.
This false-colour image, acquired on 15 December 2025 by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites, shows the snow-covered Mount Teide following Storm Emilia, which brought the heaviest snowfall since 2016 with a reported 1.5 metres.
Open data from the Copernicus Sentinel-2 mission helps park managers track snow extent, assess safety conditions, and monitor how extreme weather affects sensitive mountain ecosystems.
