Signy and Moe Islands form part of the South Orkney Islands, a remote, heavily glaciated archipelago in the Southern Ocean, situated approximately 600 kilometers northeast of the Antarctic Peninsula. Despite the extreme cold, the islands support moss beds, lichen, and algae. They also provide a crucial breeding ground for various seabirds and penguins.

This natural-colour image, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites on 31 March 2026, shows Signy and Moe Islands. The image reveals exposed rock, sparse vegetation, glaciers, and icebergs drifting in the marine environment.

Copernicus Sentinel-2 imagery supports the monitoring of polar regions by delivering high-resolution observations of coastal zones, ice conditions, and environmental changes.
