Lake Shkodra: a new UNESCO Biosphere Reserve shared by Albania and Montenegro

8 June marks World Oceans Day 2026, a UN’s initiative highlighting the importance of ocean monitoring to better understand marine conditions, support policy, and inform decisions across coastal and offshore areas.

Ambae Volcano is a large shield volcano in northern Vanuatu, in the Pacific Ocean. Its summit caldera contains three lakes: Lake Manaro Voui occupies the central part of the caldera, while Lake Manaro Ngoru lies to the west and Lake Manaro Lakua, the largest of the three, lies to the east.

5 June marks World Environment Day 2026, under the theme “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future”, highlighting the important role of nature-based solutions in addressing climate change and supporting sustainable livelihoods for future generations.

The Gulf of Saint-Malo lies between Brittany and Normandy, in north-western France. It is known for strong tidal dynamics, which influence coastal waters, sediment transport, and the surrounding marine environment.
