Addressing the impacts of invasive alien species, Slovenia
Location: Slovenia
Credit: European Union, Copernicus Sentinel-2 imagery

This Copernicus Sentinel-2 image from 11 April 2025 shows the area around Logatec, Slovenia.

This region is home to many Natura 2000 sites which are the focus of a European Commission-funded LIFE Project to prevent and manage adverse impacts of invasive alien plant species. In Slovenia, 19 terrestrial habitat types – predominantly meadows in agricultural land and riparian zones – are vulnerable to invasive alien species. This LIFE Project will prevent, minimise, and mitigate the consequences of these species on endangered habitats through measures such as adjusted garden waste management and public awareness raising.

Copernicus provides key data for tracking the health and biodiversity of important ecosystems, helping to inform and monitor the effects of sustainable management strategies.
