The Etesian winds (also called ''meltemia'') are strong, dry north winds of the Aegean Sea, which blow periodically from mid-May to mid-September.

On July 31st, 2024, Copernicus Sentinel-3, captured the wind streaks/vortices generated by the Etesian winds after hitting the shores of the Cyclades islands.

In addition, the sunlight makes the water appear in a pearly white colour, which contrasts with the usual deep blue of the sea.

On the contrary, we can observe calm seas at the Ionian Sea.
