The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) has published its latest monthly Climate Bulletin, focused on key climate trends in August 2025.

The bulletin reports that August 2025 was the third-warmest August globally, with an average ERA5 surface air temperature of 16.60°C. This was 0.49°C above the 1991–2020 average for the month and 1.29°C warmer than the 1850–1900 pre-industrial baseline.  More information is available here.

These data visualisations, based on C3S data, show surface air temperature over Europe during the August 2025 heatwave, which took place from 8 to 18 August 2025. The visualisation on the left shows the average daily maximum surface air temperature during the heatwave. The visualisation on the right shows the average daily mean surface air temperature anomalies (relative to the 1991–2020 reference period) during the same time period.
