Information session on a new EO product for wet snow monitoring supporting hydrology, meteorology and hazard warnings

28 Nov 2023
Earth Observation | Copernicus

The overall aim of the WetSnow activity is to develop and make available a satellite product on snow surface wetness that assists forecasting and modelling for applications in hydrology, meteorology and hazard warnings.

The product is based on Sentinel-3 Sea and Land Surface Temperature Radiometer (SLSTR) data to retrieve information about the liquid water content in the snow surface. The WetSnow activity is carried out as a collaboration between Meteo Romania, Norwegian Space Agency and Norwegian Computing Center.

The WetSnow product will be presented as a side event to the Hydrospace 2023 workshop in Lisbon, Portugal, as a hybrid physical (Auditorium II) and online one-hour meeting on Tuesday 28 November starting at 13:00 CET. The first half of the meeting will briefly present the activity, the product, the service portal and example products. The second half of the meeting will open for questions and answers and facilitate a discussion. The meeting will also facilitate creating the first ideas for a potential follow-on activity testing wet-snow monitoring in other European countries.

The online event will be available as a Zoom meeting. Note that registration to the Zoom meeting in advance is necessary and can be done at https://wetsnow.ro/events-information-session-lisbon-2023.php. A meeting invitation with a Zoom link will be sent. The meeting will also be streamed on YouTube. Note that asking questions and giving comments require attending the meeting through Zoom.

A stream of the meeting will also be available on the WetSnow-YouTube-Channel which you can find by clicking here.
