Restoring wooded meadows in Estonia
This Copernicus Sentinel-2 image, acquired on 20 December 2024, shows the Alam-Pedja Reserve in Estonia.
This is one of the project areas of the WoodmeadowLIFE project, an initiative to restore and promote long-term sustainable management of wooded meadows in Estonia and Latvia. These countries contain around 60% of the wooded meadows in the boreal region and are home to diverse and rare plant and animal species. Though many wooded areas throughout Europe have become overgrown, this LIFE project helps to protect these environmentally and culturally significant areas.
Copernicus provides key data for tracking forest and vegetation health, biodiversity, and the impacts of climate change, helping to protect ecosystems and inform sustainable management strategies.
