September 2024, the second-warmest September on record
The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) has published its latest monthly Climate Bulletin, highlighting significant climate trends.
September 2024 marked the second-warmest September on record, following September 2023, with temperatures 0.73°C above the average for that month from 1991 to 2020. Additionally, it was 1.54°C warmer than the estimated pre-industrial average for the period between 1850 and 1900.
In Europe, the trends mirror the global findings. The average temperature for September 2024 reached 16.47°C, which is 1.74°C above the average for the same month from 1991 to 2020, making it the second highest recorded for the region, again after September 2023.
This data visualisation, based on C3S data, shows the surface air temperature anomaly for September 2024 across the European continent and parts of Africa, the Americas, and Asia . CS3 data is key to monitoring global climate trends, thereby supporting decisionmakers and researchers in better understanding and preparing for the impacts of a changing climate.
