While areas of Queensland are currently struggling with the worst floods in decades, south-eastern Australia is now faced with more than 60 bushfires.

One of the larger fires, currently burning in the Duck Creek area of the Pilliga National Park, is visible in this Copernicus Sentinel-2 image acquired on 18 December, and has burned more than 130,000 hectares.

Copernicus provides crucial data for fire prevention and preparedness, supporting the development of early warning systems and fire risk assessments and supports damage assessments.
